NBC Sports Boston/Felger & Mazz
Tony Massarotti — a well-known radio show host who was suspended last year after an insensitive joke involving black people — has come under fire again… after muttering a racial slur while on air.
The latest foot-and-mouth moment came on Wednesday’s episode of “Felger & Mazz” — a Boston afternoon show — when Massarotti was talking to his co-host. Michael Felger about your doubts with Generation Z.
The former Boston Globe sports journalist said he believes the Z in Gen Z “stands for z ***** head” — a term commonly used to offend people of Asian descent.
Felger let out a laugh as he cringed at the comment…but the conversation progressed anyway – without further comment on the comment.
Not long after, social media users called for Massarotti’s job — noting that it was the second time in the past year that he made racially insensitive statements on his show.
If you are not familiar, in February 2023he warned Felger to be careful around two black men who were sitting behind him: “Because the last time you were around two guys like that, they stole your car.”
He issued a mea culpa shortly thereafter — claiming he was trying to “mock” Felger, who allegedly had his car stolen in New Orleans just weeks earlier.
Even so, Massarotti was suspended for the rest of the week without pay.
Until now, Massarotti and the bosses at his 98.5-plus show The Sports Hub have remained radio silent about his latest failure.
