The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss expanding humanitarian aid to Gauzesaid three officials involved in the discussion, although aid will likely increase soon.
A spokesman for Netanyahu did not immediately comment. A fourth Israeli official said the prime minister’s security office should discuss the matter in more detail on Sunday. The meeting was first reported by Israel’s Channel 13 news.
After the 30-day US deadline
The United States told the Israel what must take action within the next 30 days to improve the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave or face possible restrictions on US military aid, US officials said on Tuesday.
No food aid since the beginning of October
The United Nations has long complained about obstacles to sending aid to Gaza and distributing it through the war zone, blaming the obstacles on Israel and lawlessness. The UN said no food aid entered northern Gaza between October 2 and 15.
On Wednesday, the Israeli military unit that oversees aid and trade missions to Gaza said that 50 trucks carrying food, water, medical supplies and shelter equipment provided by Jordan had been moved to northern Gaza.
