Julie Chrisley really wants to get out of prison.
Of course, this is something she might have wanted to consider before going ahead years ago and violating a series of United States laws.
On September 25, a federal judge resentenced the disgraced reality star seven years behind bars due to his conviction for bank fraud and tax evasion, refusing his request for less prison time than initially imposed.
The sentence was handed down after an appeals court overturned his original 2022 sentence.
Now, however, the Chrisley Knows Best alum and her legal team are appealing the decision and hoping to reduce the amount of time Julie must spend as an inmate.
Chrisley’s attorney, Alex Little, asked a judge this week to reduce his client’s sentence by approximately two years.
He argued in his lawsuit that Chrisley was a minor participant in the aforementioned crimes… and that her “scattered offenses” were “dramatic mistakes.”
The lawyer also highlighted that Julie behaved well and took advantage of opportunities to enrich herself during the 20 months in prison so far, receiving more than 70 certificates.
In turn, federal prosecutor Annalize Peters argued that Julie played a “key role” in a fraudulent scheme and that she did not apologize, show remorse or admit any wrongdoing for her actions.
About two years ago,Julie was convicted of federal tax evasionand bank fraud alongside her husband, Todd Chrisley, and her accountant, Peter Tarantino.
According to their charges, the spouses deliberately “frauded” at least $30 million from community banks between 2007 and 2012, inflating their net worth to get loans approved.
Prosecutors also alleged that the couple actively hid millions they made from Chrisley Knows Best, as well as $500,000 in taxes Todd owed in 2009.
“I feel like the judge held some bias against Julie,” Jay V. Surgent, another member of Julie’s legal team, told The Sun last month.
“I really think (Judge Ross) was trying to make an example of (Julie) because of her status. The higher a person’s profile, the more example the courts, state or federal, like to set for them.”
This lawyer said he believed his client was entitled to “less than 60 months” behind bars and that she “should have gotten three to four years at most,” noting that he did NOT see the benefit of Julie receiving a seven-year sentence . sentence.
Perhaps the thought was less beneficial and more punitive.
For lying to the government, Todd Chrisley was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
The rich and very spoiled star was ordered to pay $17.8 million in restitution, although the amount was reduced to $4.7 million.
Todd is in a minimum-security federal prison camp in Pensacola, Florida — with a release date of September 2032, according to the federal Bureau of Prisons website.
The husband and wife allegedly I haven’t spoken in over 14 months.
