Cynthia Erivo Warner Bros. is fed up with the fan edits surrounding the upcoming “Wicked” movie… including a viral image of the revamped movie poster.
The actress, who plays Elphaba in the highly anticipated film “Wicked,” released a statement on Instagram on Wednesday after fans decided to edit the film’s poster to look more like the one used in the Broadway musical.
Check it out… the new image has been edited to cast a shadow over Cynthia’s eyes because of the Wicked Witch’s wide-brimmed hat… just like the original illustration.
While fans seemed proud of their edit, Cynthia made it clear she wasn’t impressed… calling the unauthorized poster “the most savage and offensive thing.”
She released the image shortly after a few other viral memes, including an AI depiction of Cynthia fighting her co-star Ariana Grandeand the question “is your pussy green” circulating on the internet.
She continued… “None of this is funny. None of this is cute. It degrades me. It degrades us.”
As for the critics who wanted the film’s poster to look more like the illustrated Broadway depiction… Cynthia maintains that she is “a real-life human being” who made a choice with her pose for the teaser.
She added… “Our poster is a tribute, not an imitation, editing my face and hiding my eyes is erasing me. And that is deeply hurtful.”
Cynthia reshared the film’s poster on her Instagram Stories… to “cleanse her palette.”
Despite Cynthia’s frustrations, “Wicked” is still set to be one of this fall’s most “popular” films… Fandango reports that the film is the second pre-sold film of the year, behind Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
