BMW unveiled a heavily updated version of the Gran Coupe Series 2the compact sedan that first arrived in 2019 as a 2020 model.
The updated version will go on sale in the US next spring and will arrive as a 2025 model. The changes are similar to those in the updated version of the Related 1 Series hatchback which debuted in June and is outside the limits of this market.
There’s a new look for the 2 Series Gran Coupe up front, characterized by slimmer headlights, new grille patterns (as well as the option of an illuminated grille) and a new lower fascia design. The rear is also new, with taillights, lower fascia and exhaust tips also featuring new designs. In the US, the 2 Series Gran Coupe will feature a M Sport exterior design package as standard.

Inside, the updated 2 Series Gran Coupe adopts the most modern cabin design of BMW’s other compacts, including the new 2024 X2 crossover which started sales last year. A large display panel integrating a 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.7-inch infotainment screen now sits atop the dashboard. There’s also a new center console with additional controls, including a small boss for shifting gears, as opposed to the traditional vertical lever.
The infotainment system is powered by Google’s Android operating systemand it’s easier to use thanks to the QuickSelect feature that provides quick access to frequently used functions. It is also possible to display individually configurable graphics on the infotainment screen as an alternative to the standard navigation map view.

When it comes to mechanical changes, the focus was on improving handling through greater body rigidity and suspension revisions. These revisions include new adjustable shock absorbers with an additional sleeve, recalibrated stabilizer bars, and a 20% increase in front wheel caster offset.
THE US market will receive models 228 and M235. The 228 will be offered with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive and will be powered by a 241-hp 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine. The M235 will come with all-wheel drive only, as well as a 2.0-liter turbo-4 with up to 312 hp. In both cases, the transmission is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
BMW estimates the all-wheel-drive 228 will reach 60 mph from rest in about 5.8 seconds. The M235 needs just 4.7 seconds to achieve the same feat.
Production of the 2 Series Gran Coupe is carried out at the BMW plant in Leipzig, Germany.
