A final contractor for two waste management projects in Central Macedonia is expected to be appointed in the coming days. the GEK Terna Group.
The first “Construction of a Treatment Unit for Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) mixed residuals and pre-selected organic waste (RES) of the Eastern Sector of the Central Macedonia Region” with a budget of 241.881 million euros (including options and VAT) It is a public project and Terna (construction subsidiary of the GEK Terna Group) emerged as a temporary contractor last May.
The Waste Treatment Unit (WTP) of the Eastern Sector of the Central Macedonia Region will be built at the site “Agios Antonios” within the administrative limits of the Vasilikon Municipal Unit of Thermi Municipality of PE Thessaloniki. It is located between the settlements of Kato Scholario and Agios Antonios. It will process 150.2 thousand tons of waste per year.
The second project will be implemented in the form of a PPP and concerns the “Waste Treatment Unit of the Western Sector of the Central Macedonia Region”, with an estimated value of 202 million euros. FODSA’s decision on the temporary contractor declaration was made public yesterday. The GEK Terna Group participates in the PPP with its subsidiary Terna Energy (the waste management branch will remain in GEK Terna, after the sale of the aforementioned subsidiary) and in a joint venture with Titan.
The Central Macedonia Region Western Sector MEA will have a capacity of 300,000 tons and will be built next to the Mavrorah landfill. It will serve 9 municipalities on the west side of the prefecture of Thessaloniki (Ampelokipo – Menemeni, Volvi, Delta, Kordelio – Evosmos, Lagada, Neapolis – Sykeon, Pavlou Mela, Chalkidonos, Oreokastro), 60% of the central municipality of Thessaloniki, all municipalities in the prefectures of Pella, Imathia and Pieria, as well as the municipality of Paionia Kilkis.
