Europe “acts as institutional guarantor and attentive observer”
For this reason, as he states, he expects Europe to “act as an institutional guarantor and close observer of the critical cuts that Albania must make to its institutional backbone”, since “our Union has, after all, the necessary mechanisms, to supervise effectively, intervene correctly, demand decisively the implementation of Albania’s membership obligations”.
“These obligations now reflect our constant requests, our struggles and the injustices that members of the Greek ethnic minority have suffered for so many years”, he highlights and adds: “Now, in the first set of funds co-signed by 27 Member States , the rights of the Greek ethnic minority and especially our property rights are included, while Albania’s obligation to immediately adopt implementing laws regarding the right to self-determination and the use of the Greek language in contacts with public services is expressly registered.
“Albania must do this, so as not to miss a historic opportunity that opens up before it. I hope that it fully complies with the conditions of accession and does not deviate from the European path it has chosen”, concludes Beleris.
