A 14 year old boy from the Northeast France stole his parents’ car and led to a crazy chase on a motorway at 180 km/h, the French court said today.
The teenager, who has no criminal record, will be brought before the Juvenile Court in the next two months. He is accused of theft, robbery, driving without a license, endangerment and several other traffic violations, according to the Montbéliard prosecutor.
The police chased him for 61.5 kilometers. The young man “passed between the cars, running in the emergency lane at 180 kilometers,” said the prosecutor, surprised. He then reversed into the LEA and ended up losing control of the vehicle. However, he continued to flee on foot but was detained by authorities in a village near Dole.
His dangerous driving caused an accident involving a police car and two other cars, leaving three people with minor injuries.
After being taken into custody, he apologized, the prosecutor said. “Tthe child is unable to give clear explanations about events (…) He says he had problems in high school, but he doesn’t say what kind. The incredible thing is that he managed to accelerate at full speed and be chased for so many kilometers”, commented the prosecutor.
The child “comes from a normal family, without problems” and had not given a reason, except in a case of sexual abuse, together with other minors, for which an alternative procedure was followed. After schools reopened this year, he lost several times.
