Pirelli is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Ferrari 288 GTO giving the ’80s supercar icon some new tires.
The company revealed a newly developed Cinturato P7 for the 288 GTO in the 2024 GTO Legacy Tour, in which owners celebrated the car’s 40th anniversary with a winding drive through Italy’s Dolomite mountains to Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello.

The Cinturato P7 is part of the Pirelli Collection range of tires for old cars. They combine modern design and construction with period-appropriate appearance, according to Pirelli. GTO-spec tires will be offered in the same sizes as the originals – 225/50 R16 at the front and 265/50 R16 at the rear.
It’s not just the app that’s vintage. The original Pirelli Cinturato P7 was developed for the 1974 World Rally Championship and launched as a road car tire in 1976. Pirelli calls the tire its first ultra-low profile offering, as it had a very low sidewall height compared to the tread width. This became more common over the years, but gained prominence in the 1970s.

The 288 GTO can also track your origins back to the rally. He was the spiritual successor of legendary 250 GTO two decades earlier, which meant it was a special approval. The original plan was to enter it in the Group B rally category, but this was canceled before Ferrari had the opportunity to reunite the GTO. Ferrari still built 272 examples, including some Evolution versions for road racing.
This isn’t the only Ferrari supercar out of production purchasing new Pirelli tires. A partnership between the automaker and the tire manufacturer saw Pirelli develop bespoke tires for the Enzo, and saw Ferrari sign on to use existing tires from the Pirelli Collezione series for the F40 and F50.
