Recep Tayyip Erdogan made references in Greek-Turkish in his statements to journalists during his return flight from Belgrade to Türkiye.
To a journalist’s question, the Turkish President responded as follows:
“After the 2023 elections, there was an understanding to see if we could resolve the existing chronic problem between Greece and Turkey through comprehensive negotiation.
“Together with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, we have given political support to this process and our Ministry of Foreign Affairs has carried out a comprehensive study on this issue. It is important that there is a will on both sides to define the problems, describe the its content and find concrete solutions (…)
Our Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, will travel to Greece and hold talks on these issues. We will discuss all these questions based on of our holistic approach to the Aegean”.
He added the following: “Turkey and Greece are two neighboring countries with historical ties. The principle of good neighborliness is the key to a win-win recipe for both countries. I believe that relations between Turkey and Greece are moving towards a better future on this basis.
“From the beginning, we have addressed the issues that are on the agenda of both countries with a solution-oriented approach. We say: “Both countries can show a desire for a solution and leave the problems behind”. We always ask for the definition of areas of maritime and space jurisdiction in accordance with International Law. As countries in the region, we can only increase security and stability and reduce the risks of conflict through dialogue and cooperation. We seek justice. We are not invading anyone’s land and we are completely determined to protect our rights until the end.”
