British police announced today that they have received 40 new complaints regarding former Harrods owner Mohammed al-Fayed.
In September, British police called on anyone with a complaint against al-Fayed to come forward and promised that complaints would be processed.
“Since the documentary aired and following our recent appeal, law enforcement officials have received a large amount of information, mainly relating to the actions of Mohamed al-Fayed, but also some to the actions of others,” said Stephen Kleiman, head of the Department of Special Crimes. Unit. Metropolitan Police.
The new complaints involve 40 victims and cover crimes – including sexual assault and rape – between 1979 and 2013, police said in a statement.
Al Fayed died at age 94 in 2023. He purchased the luxury department store in 1985 and sold it in 2010.
Although there is no prospect of al-Fayed being convicted because he is not alive, the Metropolitan Police said it continued to investigate whether other people could be brought to justice for crimes.
Police continue to appeal to any victims or anyone who knows people who facilitated al-Fayed’s actions.
