Israel’s military said this evening that its forces opened fire near the UNIFIL General Staff in southern Lebanon, claiming that it had already asked UN peacekeepers to remain “in protected areas”.
“Army forces operated in the Nakura area, next to a UNIFIL base. “The soldiers then ordered the UN forces present in that area to remain in protected areas and then opened fire,” the army said in a statement.
