The President of the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance gives a response to Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ demands on the budget, Nikos Pappas.
In a video published on social media, he presents the prime minister’s five lies about the budget, answering point by point, both about the reduction in income and the increase in tax revenues and about the increase in public debt and social expenses.
“Sir. Mitsotakis and the New Republic they apply a policy of memos without memos,” says Mr. Pappas, inviting Mr. Mitsotakis to a full debate in Parliament.
In more detail, Mr. Pappas states the following in the video he published:
“There are five things Mr. Mitsotakis wants you to know about the budget. There is also truth.
1. It’s good for your pocket only if you are a banker or an energy company owner. We pay another 2.5 billion in taxes with this budget. Another 1.5 billion in VAT and another 1 billion in income tax. As for purchasing power? We are the last in the EU.
2. Public debt was regulated by our own government. Mr Mitsotakis increased it by 50 billion euros. Do you know many residents selling banks, ports and infrastructure to cover the holes?
3. The truth is that imports are much higher than exports and their difference, in recent years, has reached a record.
4. The truth is that we pay 35% of healthcare costs out of pocket, that 200 schools have closed, and that four million acres have burned since 2021. Do you need anything else?
5. Mr. Mitsotakis and New Democracy implement a no-memo policy. Other countries are looking for fiscal space to grow.
Mr. Mitsotakis 5 out of 5. Can you go to Parliament and talk?”
