Qatar’s Minister of Cooperation, Luluwa bin Rashid Al Khater, announced today from Beirut that her country will launch an “air bridge” to transport humanitarian aid, food and medicine to Lebanon, where the Israel and Hezbollah is now in open war.
Firas Abiad, Lebanon’s health minister, said he sees this new air bridge as “a vital help to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people.” According to Beirut, 10 aircraft are expected to transport humanitarian aid to Lebanon in October.
Since Israel’s clashes with Hezbollah began a year ago, 2,083 people have been killed and another 9,869 injured in Lebanon. Around 1.2 million people were displaced.
Earlier today, an aircraft carrying humanitarian aid and medical equipment from France landed in Beirut. UN agencies and several Arab countries also sent aid to Beirut’s international airport, which remains operational despite the bombings.
