The parents of a 3-year-old boy are extremely grateful a police officer rescued their son from a swimming pool after he went missing.
Alex Calvillo and Savannah Ybarra of Indiana say they became concerned about their son’s whereabouts after the boy, named Azieldisappeared while preparing brunch for their loved ones.
Aziel, who has been diagnosed with autism, was left on the couch watching a tablet … but wandered off — which his parents told WPTA-TV he often does.
When the parents began looking for their son on Sunday, concern grew due to the fact that not even neighbors had seen him in the neighborhood.
That’s when Savannah decided to call the police for backup… and she was relieved she did, as a Fort Wayne police officer. Evan Myers eventually discovered Aziel in the pool of a neighboring house.
Footage from Myers’ body camera shows the officer’s quick response when he heard Aziel crying for help. Watch the video… he is seen running through a backyard and through an open fence to find Aziel floating face down in an above ground pool.
Myers quickly pulled the boy from the water, reporting to his squad via his walkie-talkie that he had found Aziel, who appeared upset but unharmed.
Aziel’s father wasn’t surprised to learn his son ended up in the pool… noting that his son is a big fan of water – a fact police weren’t aware of until shortly before the rescue.
Alex added… “After I reminded him that he is autistic and likes water, about two minutes later they ended up finding him.”
Both Alex and Savannah thanked Myers… noting that it meant a lot to their family to see their son brought home safely.
Hopefully they can prevent future cases… the pool fence has already been closed, and Aziel’s parents are planning to put up their own fence around their property.
