Gettysburg College recently made headlines after reports surfaced about an alleged racial attack on a student-athlete. It was alleged that the “n-word” was carved into a student’s chest with a sharp object.
However, black student leaders are now stepping forward, claiming this is not the full story.
The Shadow Room J.Justin Carter is meeting with students to delve deeper into the incident and campus response in ‘TSR investigates.’
Here’s What Allegedly Happened to the Gettysburg College Student-Athlete
According to Carter, there are less than 5% black students at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. So when reports emerged that there had been a racial attack on campus on September 6, the incident attracted national attention. Furthermore, the students later approached the institution’s president and administrators with their frustration.
The victim allegedly claimed that he had been recorded during a meeting with the school’s swimming team. He was reportedly the only “person of color” present. The following day, the victim allegedly displayed the mark and the team captains reported it.
Ultimately, both the unidentified assailant and victim were suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.
Did the investigation hold the right people responsible for the alleged incident involving the “N-Word”?
Despite the alleged events, two black student leaders at Gettysburg College say the incident is not what it seems.
“I understand (from) our meetings that he (the victim) asked another student… to do this to him,” said a black student leader named Justino W. he explained to Carter.
Another leader, Obaapa Danquah-Smithsupported Justin’s claims that the alleged victim “flaunted” his brand.
According to Carter, questions remain about why Gettysburg College nor the student’s family took the incident to the police.
