Rich Homie Quan, the platinum-selling rapper whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, passed away on September 5 at his Atlanta residence.
He was 34 years old. The cause of his death was not immediately released along with the news of his passing.
Now, nearly a month after his death, we know what took the young man from us so soon.

The Fulton County coroner said in a statement at the time of his death that they would be performing a full autopsy.
Unfortunately, the results will look very familiar.
Rich died from the combined effects of fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine and promethazine, according to the medical examiner’s office in Fulton County, Georgia. TMZ.
In other words, he overdosed on drugs. His death was ruled an accident.
Previous TMZ got the recording from a 911 call made by the star’s girlfriend that Thursday afternoon… in which she says the artist wasn’t breathing and had no heartbeat.
She also said Rich Homie Quan was unresponsive on the couch at her home — and that he started foaming at the mouth when she tried to move him.
Your legacy
Especially known and loved in his hometown of Atlanta, the musician burst onto the scene in 2013 with the track “Type of Way”.
He followed with fan favorites like “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Ride Out,” “Lifestyles” and “Save Dat Money.”
His debut album, “Rich as in Spirit,” was released in March 2018 and peaked at No. 32 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The rapper joined Young Thug on the Cash Money Records project “Rich Gang” and was a frequent collaborator with fellow Atanta residents 2 Chainz and Jacquees.
The tributes
“Damn brother, we just talked about shooting a video,” 2 Chainz wrote on Instagram today after learning of this tragedy. “Special prayer for you and your family, and pray for anyone and everyone who is dealing with anything. My condolences, bro.
Another rapper, Boosie, also acknowledged reports of an overdose that caused Lamar’s death in a series of messages posted on Twitter.
“I just spoke to you, bra,” he said on this platform. “#tipQUAN Never forget your smile, the way you spoke and, of course, your music.”
In a follow-up post, Boosie added:
“We have some good memories together and that always brings a smile to my face #restupquan We were cooking some S- TOO.”
Lamar was the father of four children – two shared with Amber “Rella” Williams, plus two from a previous relationship. May he rest in peace.
