OR Great Britain said two of its fighter jets and an aerial refueling plane played a role yesterday, Tuesday, in efforts to prevent a further escalation of the conflict in middle Eastbut the fighters did not attack any targets.
“Two Royal Air Force Typhoon fighters and a Voyager aerial refueling aircraft played their part in efforts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East, demonstrating the UK’s unwavering support for Israel’s security,” the British Ministry of Defense said in X.
“Due to the nature of this attack, they did not engage with any targetsbut played an important role in broader deterrence and efforts to prevent further escalation.”
Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday in retaliation for Israel’s campaign against Tehran’s ally Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israel promised to give a “painful response” to its enemy.
Asked whether Britain was prepared to use its armed forces to help Israel defend itself, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Tuesday that Israel has the right to self-defense.
Meanwhile, a charter flight carrying British citizens from Lebanon has left the country, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said today, adding that more flights are scheduled to depart in the coming days.
“The first charter flight carrying British citizens from Lebanon has now departed,” Lammy told X.
“We have made preparations for another flight tomorrow and additional flights in the coming days, provided there is demand and it is safe to do so,” he said.
