Daniel Day-Lewis was noticed again on a film set this week, marking his surprise return to acting.
The 67-year-old Oscar winner was photographed on Sunday looking almost unrecognizable as he rode a bicycle through the streets of Manchester, England, with actor Sean Bean behind him.
For the scene, filmed for a new movie called “Avelyn,” Day-Lewis wore an olive green jacket, black pants, brown boots and black gloves.
He also wore a white hard hat, gold glasses and a neatly trimmed gray beard that contrasts with the clean-shaven look he has been sporting at recent Hollywood events.
Day-Lewis’ reps did not immediately respond when asked whether or not this project marks the artist’s official return.
According to a local UK outlet, Bean, 65, plays the role of an ex-soldier and “Avelyn” is set in the 1980s.
Not much information is known about Day-Lewis’ part. The film is not yet listed on his IMDB profile.
In November 2017, the award-winning actor shared that his decision to retire was somewhat abrupt.
“(I) didn’t even know I was going to stop appearing,” he confessed to W magazine during his thought process before creating what would have been his final film, “Phantom Thread.”
“I know (director) Paul (Thomas Anderson) and I laughed a lot before we made the movie. And then we stopped laughing because we were both overcome with a certain kind of disappointment.
Day-Lewis added that he felt so prepared to go through that mission that he wasn’t going to follow it.
“The lack of desire to see the film is related to the decision I made to stop working as an actor,” he explained.
“But that wasn’t why the disappointment was here to stay. This happened during the telling of the story, and I actually don’t know why.”
Despite being delayed for a while, Page Six only reported in January 2018 that Day-Lewis still hadn’t hit it off with Hollywood.
Sources told us just at the time that the “Lincoln” star was attending meetings about “production initiatives,” with one source stating, “He is trying to help a friend get a film financed and produced.”
It is unclear whether or not “Avelyn” is one of these initiatives.
