“Greece will continue to act as an accelerator in the process of integration of the Western Balkan States into the European Union”, assured the Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetriteduring the ministerial meeting held in the German capital within the framework of the “Berlin Process” for the Western Balkans.
Gerapetritis stressed that the European Union “the bigger it is, the stronger it will become” and added that Greece, as the oldest EU Member State from the Balkans and as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, “will once again have priority in the integration process” of the region’s states.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs clarified at the same time that “it is important and cannot be ignored”, the Western Balkan states must respect the acquis communautaire, international law, including international agreements, as well as the principles arising from the rule of law.
“In the midst of wars and turmoil across the region, it is important that the Balkans be a pillar of calm, tranquility and prosperity,” Gerapetritis said.
