She rages uncontrollably fire which broke out in Rosena Xylokastro Corinthia at around 9:00 pm, a new message was sent from 112 for the evacuation of the settlement of Medourgianika.
“Unfortunately, we are facing a very difficult situation, due to the fire, in the Rosene Xylokastro area and in the neighboring communities”, says the vice-governor of Corinth, Anastasios Giolis, speaking to APE-MPE.
In fact, as he adds: “the situation is becoming even more difficult due to the winds blowing in the area.”
Residents react
According to Anastasios Giolis, “fire represents a dangerboth heritage and environmental, but the Fire Department is here and constantly working to put it out.”
“At the same time”, he continues, “the residents of the communities, as well as the volunteers, are fighting their own battle together with the firefighters”.
Furthermore, the lieutenant governor says that “We urge residents to strictly follow instructions from authorities and remain in safe locations.”
According to the vice-governor, “so far there are no reports of houses that may have been burned by the fire”.
Strong winds are blowing
At the same time, the Fire Department Continuously reinforces ground forces working to extinguish the fire.
Specifically, 289 firefighters with 9 groups of pedestrian departments, 98 vehicles, while periodically trying until the last light of the day, 14 aircraft and 10 helicopters, including two for aerial coordination.
Volunteers, water trucks and work machines from the Peloponnese region, as well as two work machines from the National Defense General Staff are also helping.
The fire started at around 10:51 am in an inaccessible area within a forested area with dense vegetation, while the work of firefighters is hampered by strong winds, which blow with gusts of up to 8 Beaufort.
Previously, a coordination meeting was held in Civil Protection under the authority of the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilia. The meeting was attended by relevant ministries, representatives of the security forces, the EKAB armed forces, as well as all agencies involved.
It should be noted that in the early afternoon three more messages were sent via 112 to residents of the wider area, two of which called for the evacuation of settlements. In particular, at 17:04 a warning message was issued by 112 for preparation in the wider area of Rosene, Corinthia, at 17:25 a message was issued by 112 to move away from the village of Pyrgos to Zacholi, while at 17:45 a third message was issued by 112 for preventive evacuation from Elliniko to Kato Pitsa.
