Eight members of the Colombian Air Force, on a humanitarian mission in a border region with Venezuela, died when the helicopter they were traveling in crashed.
As President Gustavo Petro announced, in his post on Plataforma X, when expressing his condolences to the victims’ families: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of eight members of the Colombian Air Force.”
The military stated that the helicopter was located in a rural area, close to the community of Kumaribo. “There are no survivors,” he said.
The causes of the accident are being investigated.
Images released by local media show the helicopter burned and disintegrated in a field.
