Volkswagen revealed a new generation of Tiguan compact crossover last fall, but that’s not the version destined for the U.S.
Instead, the The US will once again have a distinctive larger Tiguan to the version sold overseas (shown here), and we’ll see the covers coming out in November during the 2024 Los Angeles auto show.
The reveal date was confirmed by the CEO of the Volkswagen Group of America, Pablo Di Si, in an interview with Automotive News (subscription required) published on Thursday.
Di Si in the same interview said that he wants get VW to offer hybrids in the USand pointed out how the latest Tiguan the rest of the world gets offers a plug-in hybrid option.
“We have the technology, we know how to do it and we will adjust the portfolio over the next two years,” he said.
VW’s last hybrid in the US was the Jetta Hybrid, which was dropped in 2016.
Di Si is not alone in his desire to launch hybrid vehicles to meet the growing demand for electrified vehicles that still have a gasoline engine. Many automakers are backtracking on plans to exclusively sell electric vehicles. A senior Jeep executive also recently said the brand may launch low-cost traditional hybrids to sell alongside plug-in hybrids and EVs.
The redesigned US-spec Tiguan is expected to arrive as a 2025 model. The vehicle will use the same updated MQB platform as the Tiguan sold overseas and is expected to share much of its design with the Tayron redesigned with Chinese specification previously detected tests.
VW is also out testing a redesigned Atlas medium SUV which is expected to arrive as a 2026 model.
