SYRIZA issued a statement following the fine of 150,000 euros to the Ministry of Citizen Protection, by the Personal Data Protection Authority for new identities.
The Authority found deficiencies in the provision of general information to data subjects, while also determining that the necessary data protection impact assessment was carried out late and has deficiencies.
For these reasons, it imposed on the Ministry of Citizen Protection, as controller, an administrative pecuniary fine for the above-mentioned infractions, while also sending the Ministry an order for compliance within six months.
SIRIZA notes that it “operates with practices from decades past, dispelling the myth of ‘personal status’ for its own sake” and adds: “We call on citizens to be careful and assert their right to privacy and the protection of their personal data against a government who can’t protect him’.

“Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ ministers are going from success to success in terms of protecting citizens’ personal data.
After the fine of 400 thousand euros to the Ministry of the Interior for leaking personal data of foreign voters, after the Ministry of Education and the e-learning scandal with Cisco, it was the turn of the Ministry of Citizen Protection which was fined 150 thousand by the Personal Data Protection Authority, because it found deficiencies in the provision of general information to citizens and the necessary impact assessment was carried out with delay and deficiencies.
Not only did they not respond to the citizen who raised a related question, they also lied to the Authority, claiming that they had sent a memorandum to the relevant agencies – a document that never appeared!
New Democracy proves that it follows the practices of past decades, dispelling the myth of the “personal State”. It is not official, nor does it protect citizens, as confirmed by the Personal Data Protection Authority.
We call on citizens to be vigilant and assert their right to privacy and the protection of their personal data against a government that does not guarantee it.”
