A huge blimp sent by a major football team for a promotional blitz turned into a public relations nightmare when it crashed into a residential area in Sao Paulo, Brazil… injuring the pilot.
The airship was flying from Carapicuíba when it crashed in the suburb of Osasco, about 4 miles away, around midday on Wednesday… video from onlookers showing the airship being destroyed after getting stuck on rooftops.
Locals ran for cover from the plummeting airship… creating quite a chaotic scene.
The pilot was rescued from the cockpit and hospitalized, but is expected to be OK — and no other injuries were reported.
The blimp, rented by Brazilian football team São Paulo FC, was carrying out a test flight ahead of Wednesday night’s Copa Libertadores quarter-finals when things went downhill. I think they should have just stuck to a regular billboard!
The Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center is now on the case, investigating what went wrong in this air fiasco.
