Panos Mouzourakis, who testified as a defense witness for the accused priest, attributes the involvement of the founder of Kivotos in the case of bodily harm and threats against minors housed in the structures to other purposes.
“When I met Father Antonio, I was going through some darkness in my life. I had lost my faith in God and in people. The way his words worked on me was cathartic. He was never aggressive. When I went to camp, the children played basketball. I never imagined that he would receive so much love from the children. Because there are different characters of people, what impressed me and convinced me… were the looks these children gave to Father Antonio. I saw 40 children together and even the one who physically seemed the most agitated took the hand and calmed the most frightened children. In other words, what Father Antonio did was shocking,” he said, as he continued the poem:
“Defense Attorney: Until the charges were filed, had you heard anything?
Witness: No, I never heard anything.
Advocacy: If there was a reason to trust your child in a structure, would you trust him in the Ark?
Witness: With eyes closed…”.
