Rolls-Royce began sales of its first electric vehicle last year in the form of a the Spectre coupe. It has proven to be a huge success, with orders already filled through 2025, before production began a year ago.
Rolls-Royce doesn’t plan to rest on its laurels, however. According to Automotive news (subscription required), the automaker is already developing two more electric vehicles, a sedan and an SUV.
The news doesn’t come as a huge surprise, as Rolls-Royce, during the 2022 Spectre reveal, already announced plans to sell exclusively electric vehicles by the end of 2030although more and more automakers that made similar promises have backed away due to slower-than-expected growth in demand for electric vehicles, and Rolls-Royce may also back out.
According to Automotive News, Rolls-Royce will launch the electric SUV in early 2027. It will be smaller than the current Cullinan, but are still in the normal size category.
The sedan will arrive in late 2028 and replace the ghost.
It is unclear whether the new EVs will adopt a dedicated EV platform or use Rolls-Royce’s current platform. aluminum space frame architecture that underpins the automaker’s gas-powered models, as well as the Spectre. However, the vehicles are likely to have a significantly longer range than the Spectre’s 264 miles, due to advances in battery technology. Parent company BMW Group will soon launch a new generation of BMW EVs that will offer a 30% range improvement thanks to new batteries with cylindrical cells (instead of the current prismatic cells).
Before the new electric vehicles arrive, Rolls-Royce is expected to launch a Black Badge performance version of the Spectre next year and give the electric coupe a mid-cycle refresh in 2027.
