The Republican nominee made the comment that Harris “turned black” after she also spoke about her Indian heritage. While her mother is South Asian, her father is Jamaican, making her biracial.
“I think it’s very irresponsible, when you have a platform the way Janet Jackson has, to use that platform carelessly to spread misinformation based primarily on a racist allegation by Donald Trump,” Navarro continued. This has led to a broader conversation about misinformation and disinformation as one of the biggest problems facing the modern world.

Sunny accommodationwho took time during Monday’s show to remind her co-hosts that, like Harris, she can be multiracial, agreed with Harris’s strategy for the whole race situation, which has been to largely ignore it.
As for Jackson’s approach, she added: “I don’t know if it comes from misinformation, I don’t know if it comes from lack of awareness, but all I know is I don’t need to make a big deal out of it.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin gave Jackson some humor, talking about the prevalence of “information silos” that people live in, as a result of social media algorithms that feed consumers information, and most people admit to getting most of their information from these select platforms.

Before the panel could proceed, however, Whoopi Goldberg jumped in and defended Jackson with great fervor, emphasizing that she is “not a political animal.” The actress argued, “She’s a musician, her life is to do this, and she’s mourning her brother.”
The moderator went on to note that she herself has been recognized as having performed poorly before, mainly due to the speed of what they do in The view. “Usually people get it wrong and they are wrong! They made a mistake, they were wrong. It happens,” she mentioned.
“Anyone who says this doesn’t happen to all of us, multiracial or not, we all do it. So, okay, a little grace for the lady,” she concluded her message. “Just a little grace for the lady.”
Jackson was criticized after an interview revealed by The Guardian on Friday, where she spoke about the likelihood of Harris becoming the first black female president.
“Well, do you understand what they supposedly mentioned?” Jackson mentioned. “She’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian.” When informed that the vice president was, in fact, both, Jackson once again pushed back.
“Her father is white. That’s what they told me. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in days,” she replied. “They told me they found out her father was white.”

Following these allegations, an apology falsely credited to Jackson, and reported in the media, began to circulate. This apology, from a person named Mo Elmasri claiming to be his supervisor, read as follows:
“Janet Jackson wishes to clarify her recent comments. She acknowledges that her statements regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity were based largely on misinformation. Janet respects Harris’s twin heritage as Black and Indian and apologizes for any confusion caused. She values the diversity that Harris represents and understands the importance of celebrating that in today’s society. Janet remains committed to promoting unity and understanding.”
On Sunday, however, Jackson’s camp responded to the apology statement saying it was unauthorized and that Elmasri is not his supervisor. Jackson was managed by his brother Randy for years. Both are mourning the loss of their brother Tito, who passed away last Sunday.
Selection reached out to Elmasri via email, who acknowledged: “I no longer work for (Janet Jackson).” “I was fired by Janet and Randy after attempts to improve their image in the public eye and with their followers,” he continued, “and this is something I do not deserve.”
He did not specify when he was allegedly fired, with Selection noting that sources close to Jackson’s group have told them he has no direct relationship with her. The outlet further reported that Elmasri’s IMDb page says he claims to be a “creative consultant” for stars including Jackson, Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Selena Gomez.
