New police video, obtained by TMZ Sportsshows that during a confrontation with police in 2023, Chandler Jones tried to contact Tom Brady — in the hope that the quarterback could help diffuse a tense situation.
The heated encounter between the former NFL star and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office happened last year on Nov. 27 … after authorities attempted to take Jones to a medical facility in Arizona following a court-ordered mental health petition.
Body camera footage from responding officers shows that they initially struggled to get Jones to come out of his Arizona mansion to speak to them. But when they spoke to one of Jones’s acquaintances outside the home, Chandler emerged from his driveway wearing only his underwear.
Jones rambled to officers about the woman in his driveway for several minutes — accusing her dogs of biting him. When asked if he wanted to press charges, he declined… and shortly after, he began sobbing.
He tearfully told police he didn’t want her to get into trouble, but when an officer tried to talk to him about people’s concerns for her well-being, his demeanor immediately changed.
Jones can be heard on the video telling the officer, “Get the hell out… get the hell out of here.” The two-time All-Pro then went back inside.
Minutes later, Jones reappeared … and sat down while officers tried to see if he would willingly see a doctor. Jones said he wouldn’t — and then asked if he could call his brother, the UFC star. Jon Jones.
Chandler couldn’t get a hold of Jon — and after a few more minutes of pacing outside his residence… a police officer said to him, “Mr. Jones, we need to talk about why we’re here now.”
Jones then appeared to try to flee, and a fight ensued. The officers and Chandler struggled on the ground for a few moments, but eventually handcuffed the former pass rusher and told him they were taking him to a doctor based on the court order they had received.
At one point, however, Chandler asked if he could call someone… and the officers allowed him to use his iPad. Chandler first tried calling Brady — his former teammate in New England — but it appears the QB didn’t answer.
Chandler was able to speak to one of his representatives a short time later — and then the officers explained that they were going to take Chandler away. When Chandler said again that he didn’t want to go, he mentioned the name of his former Raiders coach, Josh McDanielsin your response.
After a few more minutes of more back and forth, Chandler finally stood up and walked with the officers to a patrol car. According to police documents we obtained, he was transported to a nearby psychiatric facility “without further incident.”
Chandler had already addressed the incident with a video of part of the meeting on his Instagram page in December 2023.
Chandler — a 34-year-old former Pro Bowl player — was cut by the Raiders just a few months before the incident. He has not played a single game in the NFL since then.
