A major search and rescue operation for migrants stranded on a boat is underway northwest of Samos.
According to passenger testimonies, there were 30-33 people on the boat.
However, only five managed to land alive and the rest are being searched for.
A citizen saw the arrival of the migrants and informed the authorities.
The searches are carried out under the coordination of the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSED) in the maritime area of Agios Isidoros.
A Coast Guard patrol vessel, an open sea patrol vessel, a patrol vessel, a private EOD vessel from Samos and a LS-EL.AKT. land patrol vehicle are taking part in the operation. At the same time, an Air Force helicopter took off to assist in the search.
The weather conditions in the area are unfavorable, with winds of intensity 5-6 Beaufort from a northwesterly direction, which hampers the efforts of the rescue forces.
