Russian attack during the night against buildings in Kharkiv resulted in 21 people being injured last night, including three minors, aged between 8 and 17.
“21 people were injured, including three children, a 17-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl,” regional governor Oleg Sinegubov wrote on Telegram today.
Eight people are hospitalized, two of them in serious condition, he added.
Russia “targeted a communal apartment building with aerial bombs,” President Volodymyr Zelensky complained on social media.
Dozens of residents were “sleeping,” according to Oleg Sinegupov. Two high-rise apartment buildings were damaged, the governor said.
During the night, rescue teams used flashlights to search the wreckage of the buildings, according to an AFP journalist at the scene.
In one hallway, a resident, shaking and sobbing uncontrollably, held tightly to a wall, afraid to go down the stairs and leave the building. “It’s going to be OK,” a rescue worker calmly told her, holding her hand to lead her out. “Mom,” she kept saying.
As soon as he managed to get down, he hugged Alexandra’s mother, who was also shocked.
“He is terrified,” Alexandra told AFP. At the time of the bombing, “we were sleeping,” she added.
Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov, who was at the scene, assured that it was a political target and that “there was nothing military there”.
The Ukrainian Air Force announced today that Russian forces shot down two missiles and 80 drones overnight, with most of them intercepted.
President Zelenskyreacting to the attack on Kharkiv, he again demanded that Ukraine be allowed to use long-range weapons against Russian territory.
“We need to strengthen our capabilities to better protect lives and ensure security,” the Ukrainian head of state said today, promising to “convince” allies.
