Pavlos Polakis expressed his disagreement with the majority proposal on the calendar of the conference and the election of the President and the Executive Committee. meeting of the body, presenting at the same time a proposal to streamline procedures so as not to prolong the current intra-party situation.
Polakis, who posted parts of his position on social media, proposes the following timeline:
“1. 09/29/2024 Submission of applications (the only condition is 30 signatures)
2. 10/05/2024 Standing conference (with the same delegates as February) to announce nominations.
3. 11/03/2024 First vote for president
4. 10/11/2024 Second vote for president”.
Furthermore, he called on “everyone, starting with the presidential candidates, to declare the following two things from today: first, that they will respect the result, whatever it may be, and will remain in SYRIZA. Second, that within a short space of time after the election of the president we will hold a programming conference and a statutory conference of the party.” He stressed that he personally would not consider his possible election as a blank mandate to bring about constitutional changes. “Enough work has already been done, which we are not throwing away.”
He said that the most serious change that needs to be made is the regional restructuring of the party and argued that “some small but crucial changes must be made in the implementation of our program”. In this regard, he stated that “it is one thing to say that I am reducing the excise duty and another thing to say that I am returning the profit per barrel to $9 from $25, another thing to say that I am adjusting the target model and another thing to say that there is a cap on the wholesale electricity price of the PPC, which we are returning to public control, one thing to say that there will be a barrier to speculation and another thing that there will be an increase in the prices of consumer goods”. He commented that “one is the conflict with the intertwining in a specific way that denies super profits and redistributes in favor of the poor and the other is “other words for loving each other”.
“I have forgiven many insults against me”
He himself attacked the government, commenting that “in the face of all this, we, dear comrades, talk to each other about coups”. He said in particular that “Stephen’s second speech after the passing of the motion of censure, I considered it a sad reaction to a result that he did not expect”. He commented that “no one questioned the ability of the KE to vote on a motion of censure, no one questioned the ability to make a decision on the voting method” and that “Stephen himself seemed to accept the result, collecting things from his office the other day”. He added that “suddenly, four days later, this river of poison began to flow”. “Why don’t we go straight to the grassroots to vote and decide again? From most of you, I can accept everything you say. But I cannot accept that Antonaros or Spiliotopoulos talk about coup plotters”, he said.
He said everyone knows he initially supported Stefanos Kasselakis, adding: “I tried to help, I forgave many insults against me, I never came out to say things in public. But that is not how we move forward and, above all, we did not win because of leadership and the line.”
