In one of the strangest comic book movie-to-TV show spinoffs in history, Colin Farrell is now starring in a HBO and Max. series of The Penguinbased on his version of the character that first appeared in Matt Reeves’ film The Batman. Unlike the Penguin version of Batman returns and many CC comics, Farrell’s “Oz Cobb” isn’t a dapper guy with flippers, but a working-class drug dealer with facial scars and a limp that makes him shuffle his feet like, well, the Penguin. (They never say this, but presumably that This is where this version of the character got his nickname, as he doesn’t use fake umbrellas or wear black tuxedos and top hats.)
This is just one of the many easter eggs, hidden details and references to DC in the first episode of The Penguin.
