It’s the biggest show in Netflix story. And it’s back for season two.
The first teaser of Squid Game Season two has just premiered online — along with the official plot description for this new batch of episodes, which will debut on the streaming service just after Christmas 2024.
The first batch of Squid Gameabout an underground game in which 456 players fight (and die) for a large cash prize, became a worldwide phenomenon when it premiered on Netflix in 2021. The show has been viewed more than 265 million times, making it the most-watched series of any kind in the service’s history. Netflix made a reality TV version of the game in Squid Gamebut this is the first official sequel to Squid Game history.

Many of the main cast and crew members from the first season are back for this new batch of Squid Games. This includes director Hwang Dong-hyuk, as well as stars Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo. (Obviously, there will be plenty of new characters as well, since, you know, most of the ones from the first season died during the competition.)
Here’s the official synopsis for the new season:
Three years after winning the Squid Game, Player 456 has given up on going to the United States and returns with a new resolution in mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the 45.6 billion won prize.
Squid Game Season 2 premieres on Netflix on December 26.
