Rami Mortada, Lebanon’s ambassador to the UK, told The Times newspaper that an Israeli ground invasion of his country would lead to “apocalypse” conditions.
He spoke of an all-out regional conflict on multiple fronts and the radicalization of the new generation in Europe.
“We will not stand still”
He also warned that his country’s armed forces – which are trained by the British – will not “stand idly by” if Israel invades the country or “carries out a heavy air strike”.

Mortada stated that the area has already entered a “dangerous path”, as Iran and its proxies in Yemen – the Houthis – Iraq and Syria will join the conflict if the crisis worsens.
“We face all the risks of a full-scale regional conflict and that is what we are constantly trying to avoid,” he said, adding that Hezbollah had become a “powerful military force” in recent years and that Israel must learn from history and past “humiliating” defeats, such as the inconclusive months-long war with the Shiite group in 2006.
