THE barrage of explosions in Lebanon “which resulted, among other things, in the death and injury of several civilians”, condemns SYRIZA, predicting “a new dangerous escalation in the region with uncontrolled consequences at the expense of international peace”.
SYRIZA stresses that “it is imperative that the international community takes all necessary initiatives so that all parties involved demonstrate the necessary restraint, in order to avoid a generalized conflict.”
At the same time, as Koumoundourou points out, “it is becoming clear that the resolution of the Palestinian issue remains the ‘key’ to calming the crisis in the region. It is therefore necessary to support relevant UN initiatives for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, to address the humanitarian crisis and to restart credible negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians for a two-state solution, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.”
Otherwise, as the party states, “the risk of conflagration in the Middle East will continue to increase, with devastating consequences for regional stability and security.”
