The repair of the shaft system of a Suezmax type tanker, 274.2 meters long and 50 meters wide, with a total capacity of 150 thousand tons, was successfully completed at Skaramangas Shipyards.
Skaramangas Shipyards carried out the complex and demanding repair work, as the ship arrived at the shipyard unable to rotate the propeller hopper end shaft. The repair involved dismantling the propeller, the damaged (unusable) end shaft, the intermediate shaft, as well as the propeller shaft funnel. This was followed by fitting the propeller to a new end shaft (blue-fit), aligning a new propeller shaft funnel and repositioning the shaft system. During the ship’s docking, all five-year works were completed on schedule.
The Suezmax type vessel is the largest that can be accommodated in a tank in Greece, and Skaramangas Shipyards is the only shipyard that can carry out such repairs due to the size of Tank No. 4 (335 x 54 meters), specialized personnel, facilities and equipment.
The completion of this unique and complex work was carried out exclusively by the Skaramangas Shipyards team, with certification from the manufacturer of the shaft system.
“The expertise and dedication of the engineers and technical staff played a key role in the successful completion of the project and proved that they had gained significant knowledge from the special projects they had undertaken over time.
The successful completion of this highly demanding project confirms the leadership position of Skaramangas Shipyards, while reinforcing its commitment to excellence and quality”, the company emphasized.
