- Second Alpine EV bound for the US spotted
- New EV to be called A390 and previewed at 2024 Paris Motor Show
- Production scheduled to begin in 2025 at the factory in France
Alpine is ready to reveal an A390 concept at the 2024 Paris Motor Show in mid-October, but camouflaged prototypes for the production version have already been spotted.
The A390 is an electric compact crossover with a fastback design similar to the what is found in the Polestar 2.
Other design details appear to include separate daytime running lights and headlight clusters, aerodynamically shaped wheels, an LED strip for the taillights, and a short rear overhang.
The A390 will likely use a dedicated EV platform from the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance, specifically the CMF-EV design found in the Renault Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya (Renault is Alpine’s parent company). The platform offers up to 429 hp in the Ariya Nismoand something similar could be launched on the A390.

The vehicle is programmed to enter production in 2025 at a factory in Dieppe, France, where Alpine builds the gas engine A110 sports carthe only vehicle currently sold by Alpine. A A290 subcompact electric hatchback shown in June will also go into production next year.
Sales of the A390 in markets where Alpine operates are expected to begin later that year.
Although Alpine plans to enter the USA in 2027The A390 and A290 aren’t expected to make the trip. Instead, the French performance brand is expected to launch a pair of crossovers here initially, one to take aim at the Porsche Macan and the other the Cayenne. Other Alpines in the pipeline include an electric successor to the A110 and a four-door sedan or liftback to be called the A310.
Alpine’s model naming strategy uses an A representing the brand, and then a three-digit number. The first digit signifies the vehicle’s size and positioning, while the remaining two digits signify whether the vehicle is a sports model or a more practical lifestyle model. Sports models use a 10, such as the current A110 sports car, while lifestyle models use a 90, such as the A290 hatchback and the upcoming A390 crossover.
