Anthony Martial’s inclusion in AEK has also been given official status with the formal announcement on behalf of PAE.
The 28-year-old French international forward passed his medical today and then signed the contract that “binds” him to the “yellows and blacks” for the next three years.
The deal is very high by Greek standards, as Martial will receive around €3.5 million per year, excluding bonuses.
The announcement:
“PAE AEK announces the acquisition of football player Anthony Martial. The French international forward has signed a contract with our team until the summer of 2027.
After completing the transfer, the 28-year-old star told aekfc.gr: “I am very happy. AEK is an opportunity for me and I will give my best to achieve things, win trophies and bring joy to the world of the team.”
Anthony Martial was born on 5 December 1995 in Massy, France. At the age of 8, he joined the infrastructure departments of the local Ouli and six years later Lyon decided to acquire him. In his first season with the U17s, he scored 32 goals in 21 appearances, while also making four appearances for the first team until the summer of 2013, when, at the age of 17, Monaco spent 5 million euros to sign him.
He made 70 appearances for the Principality over the next two years, scoring 15 goals. The biggest step of his career followed in the summer of 2015, when Manchester United spent almost €60 million including bonuses on deadline day to sign him. The fee was a record in Premier League history for a player under the age of 20.
At United, Martial’s career took off. He made 317 appearances (90 goals, 47 assists) over the next nine years, with a six-month loan spell at Sevilla in the second half of the 2021–22 season (12 appearances, 1 goal, 1 assist). In terms of trophies, they won the 2015–16 FA Cup, 2016–17 Carabao Cup, 2016 Community Shield, 2016–17 UEFA Europa League, 2022–23 Carabao Cup and the 2023–24 FA Cup.
At the same time, he was capped by all of France’s minor national teams, while in September 2015 he made his debut for the men’s national team, with which he has played 30 times and scored two goals to date, being part of the team that won the UEFA Nations League in 2021.
Anthony, welcome to the AEK family!”.
