A new fine of €1.49 billion has been imposed by the Court of Justice of the European Union on Google for abuse of a dominant position in Internet advertising.
This is the third heaviest fine imposed by the European Court of Justice on the American giant. The decision concerns the advertising network Google AdSense, as the American giant is accused of imposing restrictive clauses in contracts concluded with websites. The aim, according to Brussels, was to prevent Google AdSense’s competitors from placing their own ads there.
Just eight days ago, the Court of Justice of the European Union conclusively confirmed another €2.4 billion fine against Google for anti-competitive market practices.
In total, the European courts imposed fines of more than 8 billion euros on the Californian giant for various competition violations.
The group is also in the crosshairs of U.S. regulators. Starting Monday, it faces a second major trial in less than a year as the U.S. government accuses Google of stifling competition in online advertising.
