The Neurotechnology Company Elon MuskNeuralink, which has successfully implanted brain chips in people with paralysis, allowing them to use mind computers with mind computer command Vision for the blind.
The experimental device, known as Blindsight, “will allow even those who have lost both eyes and the visual nerve to see,” Musk said in a blog post following the FDA approval announcement.
Musk says patients’ vision will initially be low-resolution, like that of a 1980s playground, but eventually, in its final version, the implant will allow patients to have visual abilities that even healthy people cannot see in infrared wavelengths, ultraviolet light, etc. He compared the implant to the device he gave to the blind crewman of the Enterprise in Star Trek, Jordi LaFourz.
Neuralink has not yet released information on when it plans to begin implant testing.
