Anna Delvey made her DWTS debut, with her ankle monitor on full display. But did she do enough to be saved from the first elimination?
When we first reported on the season Dancing with the stars castAnna Delvey’s name jumped out. Not just to us, but to the fandom in general. And there was an immediate divide.
It didn’t help that the infamous fraudster should wear an ankle monitor as she participates in the dance competition. Then, in her debut on the dance floor, she even dazzled her.
After the show, there was a clamor for Anna to be eliminated as soon as possible, with some suggesting that she actually “deserves to go home first.” Let’s discuss.
Anna Delvey Takes Her First Steps Onto The ‘DWTS’ Floor
Dancing with the stars Season 33 premiered on Tuesday, September 17.
Anna Delvey and her dance partner, Ezra Sosa, took to the dance floor. They had a series of imitation couture handbags with their (fake) initials on them.
The bags weren’t there merely for characterization. These props also served as cover for a big reveal.
One of the conditions of Release of Anna Delvey was that she wore an ankle monitor. And, of course, she had to receive permission from authorities — in this case, ICE — to participate. DWTS.
As soon as the bag was removed, the camera brought her ankle monitor into full view.
Anna Delvey’s monitor had a bit of sparkle to it. It’s covered in pink and blue rhinestones, matching her outfit.
What was Anna Delvey’s first ‘DWTS’ dance and song?
For his first performance at DWTS ballroom, Anna Delvey and Ezra Sosa performed a Cha Cha for “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter.
“Espresso” was one of the most popular songs of 2024. It could have been the Song of the Summer if it weren’t for another music superstarwas hit.
The song doesn’t necessarily go to the heart of Anna Delvey’s fame. But then, how many songs are there about cheating? And how many of those songs work with a Cha Cha?
Her performance was a pleasant surprise for the judges. Anna Delvey is not an experienced dancer, but she has the makings of one.
The judges expect her to improve her technique.
So far, she and Ezra have scored an 18 out of 30. That’s not bad for a season premiere — but it also might not be enough to save it.
Anna’s first performance is criticized by fans
While the judges saw promise, fans saw contempt and a lack of enthusiasm from Anna. Many vowed to cast their vote elsewhere, despite her technical skills on the floor.
Interestingly, it wasn’t so much her dancing or even her notoriety that seemed to irritate viewers. Heck, it wasn’t even the ankle bracelet!
No, fans want her out because of the post-dance interview with the judges – where she pretty much said she didn’t want to dance anymore!
“She doesn’t want to be there,” posted a fan on Reddit. “She’s not thrilled, her dancing was terrible, she’s a criminal, she destroyed people’s lives and she doesn’t think she did anything wrong. The worst part was her saying she’s glad she doesn’t have to do that dance again.”
“I was shocked when she said she didn’t want to do that dance again,” another commenter added. “So many people would love to be on the show and enjoy it, and she said that. I feel so sorry for Ezra!”
Ultimately, there seemed to be an agreement on the subreddit, titled “Anna Delvey Deserves to Go Home First,” that few would vote for her to continue.
Does Anna really want to continue on ‘Dancing With The Stars’?!
Despite the comments and feedback from fans, Anna Delvey shared how much work went into that first dance in Instagram.
Many viewers aren’t fully aware of how grueling a dance competition can be. It’s a full-body workout. And even non-ballet dances can annihilate your feet.
So maybe the Cha-Cha just wasn’t her thing! Maybe she’s ready to graduate to something a little more graceful, less impactful.
Yes, Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin, but that’s not her real name) DWTS name) is controversial. But that’s exactly why the show cast her. It’ll be interesting to see how she fares… and whether her time in the ballroom gives her a chance to win over critics.
