The annual Diamond League track and field event will increase prize money to more than $9 million in 2025, the largest in the series’ history, organizers announced Wednesday (18/09).
The athletes will earn a total of $18 million, with top performers also receiving bonuses. Male and female athletes will receive the same rate, the Diamond League said in a statement.
“The new total is almost a third higher than the amount paid during the pandemic-hit period of 2021-2024”is pointed out in the notice, at the same time that it is clarified that more money will be invested in the movement, transportation, accommodation, medical and physiotherapy services of the athletes.
Each of the 14 contests in the 2025 season, scheduled to begin in April, will award a total of $500,000 in cash prizes, with the final in August offering $2.24 million.
“The total prize money per sport will be between $30,000 and $50,000 for the series matches and between $60,000 and $100,000 for the final”specified in the instruction.
The 2024 Diamond League season concluded in Brussels last week, while the 2025 final will be hosted in Zurich.
