Once again, Lebanon is on standby, awaiting Hezbollah’s reaction against Israel, following the unprecedented bombing attack.
It has been almost a year since Iran-backed Hezbollah began its campaign against Israel during the Gaza war, the country wonders whether it will be dragged into another war with Israel.
Tuesday’s attack may have brought her closer to that possibility.
The attack caused shock in Hezbollah and across the country, but also outrage as children were among the dead.
An eight-year-old girl was killed while answering her father’s doorbell
An 11-year-old boy and four health workers in Dahiya, a Hezbollah stronghold south of Beirut, were also killed, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry.
About 2,800 people were injured.
The attack was an unprecedented security breach for Hezbollah. The buzzers were distributed to members of the organization precisely because of concerns that its telecommunications network had been hacked by Israel and that smartphones were being used to track and kill its fighters.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah will react publicly for the first time on Thursday in a speech to his supporters. The organization has blamed Israel, promising to respond. Israel, as usual, has not commented.
