Four people died in the forest fires that ravaged central and northern Portugal, while more than 40 were injured, according to the Lusa news agency.
Local authorities also evacuated other villages overnight.
48 active outbreaks in mainland Portugal
There are currently 48 active fires in mainland Portugal, with 5,000 firefighters having been mobilized to extinguish the fires.
In the city of Aveiro alone, in northwestern Portugal, flames have burned more than 100,000 hectares of forest and scrubland in the past two days.
Authorities fear the Aveiro fire could burn an additional 200,000 acres.
Roads closed – Trains stopped
Authorities closed motorways – including a section of the main axis linking Lisbon to Porto – while suspending rail links on lines in northern Portugal.
Greece signs 2 aircraft
The Portuguese government requested yesterday, Monday, the assistance from the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism (rescEU).
As the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection announced yesterday, Greece is helping with Canadair CL-415 firefighting aircraft.
