There’s no crying in baseball, but the Guardians coach Stephen Vogt made an exception on Monday night… crying his eyes out after Cleveland secured a comeback win!!
The Guards were playing catch-up for most of the crucial division matchup against the Minnesota Twins… but things turned in their favor when Kyle Manzardo hit a game-winning home run to put his team up 4-3 in the bottom of the 8th inning.
The first-year captain met with the media after Cleveland’s 87th call-up of the season … and he couldn’t hold back the tears as he talked about his players.
Vogt said his favorite moment of the night was when Manzardo’s teammate, Josh Naylorwaited at the base to hug him after the moonshot… because that summed up how special the team is to him and the others.
“I love those guys,” the former wide receiver said. “They’re so much fun to watch. They love each other. They work hard. It was an emotional night. And to see two teammates come together like that? That’s powerful.”
Vogt then walked off stage… and we assume there was a lot of hugging in the club after that.
The Guards now hold a 5-game lead in the American League Central…and with just 11 games left in the season, things are looking pretty good in Northeast Ohio.
