Donald Trump wasn’t that far from being shot… with cops saying he was about 300-500 yards away from the suspect when Secret Service engaged the alleged shooter.
The Sheriff of Palm Beach Ricardo Bradshaw simply spoke publicly about the shots fired near the Trump International Golf Course West Palm Beach around 2:00 PM ET this afternoon.
Bradshaw says a Secret Service agent noticed an AK-47-style rifle barrel stuck in the fence, poised for the former president to reach a gap, and the suspect had a GoPro to film the whole thing.
So far, officers say it’s unclear whether the shooter actually fired one shot — while the officer fired four to six shots at the alleged shooter … who left the gun in the bushes, according to officers.

Cops have not released the name of the shooter … who they arrested in Martin County after the shooting because of a helpful bystander who saw the man run away.
