Six vaccination centers across the territory were activated by EODY for broader geographic coverage of vaccination needs against it mpox disease.
Vaccination against the mpox virus does not concern the general population, but specific population groups at increased risk of exposure to the mpox virus, as listed in the vaccination recommendations:
- Men who have sex with men (MSM), men who have sex with both men and women, trans people, non-binary people. All people in the above groups are considered at increased risk if they have a recent history of multiple sexual partners or if they have had a sexually transmitted disease in the last 3 months.
- Health and care professionals working in places or conditions with an increased risk of exposure to the mpox virus (e.g. laboratories, special units, vaccination centers, missions in areas with an increased risk of mpox infection, etc.).
- People participating in humanitarian missions, people belonging to high-risk groups, people visiting family and friends who travel to regions of the affected countries (the list of regions of the countries is updated by EODY and is available on its website). In addition, people who wish to be vaccinated for personal reasons, as well as for special conditions (e.g. long stay in countries where cases of mpox are reported) and who are not included in the above-mentioned categories.
- People who have been in close physical contact with a confirmed case of the Mpox-type virus, including people living in the same household. The vaccine should be administered as soon as possible, preferably within 4 days after exposure. Vaccination up to 14 days after exposure is also recommended, as it may provide protection. Vaccination is only given if the person who has had close contact with the case does not have symptoms.
