“In the coming period, the Ministry of Development will present as comprehensive a proposal as possible for a new production model for the country,” said the Minister of Development. Takis Theodorikakosspeaking in his studio Maritime in 88th TEF.
“It is important that development spreads everywhere, that it is balanced, that it is present in all regions,” he stressed, highlighting that “the center of our attention will be Macedonia, which will become the capital of Greek industrial reconstruction.”
Theodorikakos said that “we have ahead of us to continue a creative project of economic development of the country” and stressed that “we have one of the highest growth rates, but the issue is that this must be passed on to people in terms of income and lives”.
As the Minister of Development noted, the Prime Minister announced specific measures in the context of his presence at the TIF. “It is very important to announce a further increase in the minimum wage in April, towards 950 euros in 2027,” Theodorikakos stressed.
“The Prime Minister acted realistically and exhausted all fiscal limits”
He stressed that “consumption is going well”, adding that supermarkets are seeing a new increase in turnover and transaction volume. “However, this does not mean that there are no problems, which is why we are also supporting the weakest social groups”, he noted, recalling that “a new increase has been announced – one that we can afford – for pensioners and civil servants”.
Mr Theodorikakos stressed that “the Prime Minister acted realistically and exhausted all fiscal limits”. “Do not forget that we also have obligations and when we have shied away in the past, we paid dearly for it”, he stressed.
Asked to be more specific, he said that this is a case that concerns the entire government, which is working to increase citizens’ disposable income. He also noted that, for the fourth consecutive month, supermarket prices have fallen by an average of 1-2% compared to last year. “Certainly prices are high compared to 3 years ago, but in these 3 years the minimum wage has also increased by 27%,” he added.
Responding to a question about VAT, he said that “if the country suffers a fiscal problem, that is, if part of the money we currently receive from VAT is missing, there will be a very serious problem, and nobody wants that, so we must all support the fiscal effort”.
