Alex Morgan has just announced that her last professional football game will be this weekend… saying she is officially retiring from the sport as she prepares to give birth to her second child.
The 35-year-old U.S. Women’s National Team superstar shared a candid post on social media a few minutes ago … revealing her plans to retire from playing after the San Diego Wave hosted the North Carolina Courage on Sunday.
“I gave everything to this game, and what I got in return was more than I could have ever dreamed of,” an emotional Morgan said on Instagram. “Success to me is defined by never giving up and giving it your all, and I did just that. I’m giving it my all every day on the field, and I did that.”
Morgan said she didn’t just leave it all on the field, but off it too… through her fight for the growth of women’s sports, her business ventures and, of course, being a mother.

Speaking of which, Morgan also shared his daughter, Charliewill be a big sister… marking her second child with Serving Carrasco.
“And as unexpected as this has happened, we are so happy,” she added. “For me, family means everything, I wouldn’t be here without my husband and family, lifting me up, motivating me, encouraging me, supporting me and sacrificing for me, for the past 15 years as a professional athlete.”
Morgan was a key player on the U.S. national team from 2010-2024… serving as captain and helping the Red, White and Blue win two World Cups and an Olympic gold medal in 2012.
She also played professionally in the National Women’s Soccer League with the Orlando Pride and the Wave… as well as for several European clubs.
Morgan was notably left out of the squad for the 2024 Paris Games… but she’s eager to lace up her boots one last time.
“I just want to thank the fans for always supporting us, taking what we’re saying and making it amplify,” she said. “Being there, showing up day in and day out. Supporting not only the teams I’ve played for, but also the player and the human being that I am.”
